Last week, the Richmond Orchestra and Chorus Association remembered our dear friend and chorister, Audrey Fricker and the generosity of her gift to create a scholarship fund in her name.
Audrey was born and brought up in Montreal; her foundation in music came through her mother. Audrey loved playing piano, dancing and singing. She was a passionate choral devotee, singing in many choirs, and helping to organize music for young people – particularly at U.Hill School.
Audrey was a proud founding member of Elektra Women’s Choir, and loved to sing at Christ Church Cathedral. She joined the Richmond Chorus in the fall of 1994 and was a steadfast member of the alto section for nearly 20 years. She served on the ROCA Board and regularly opened her home to singers for sectional rehearsals. Even towards the end, when her memory was fading, her choir mates would organize her music for her and enjoy the true sound of her voice.
The Audrey Fricker Scholarship Fund has been created with the help of the Richmond Community Foundation and will benefit students who are members of ROCA pursuing their musical studies.
